Born December 23, 1988, Audris Joel Perez was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals back on March 20, 2008. Since that time, Perez has only played in 3 major league games, debuting on September 15, 2013 with the Cardinals. He managed to get into 2 games that year, but has never recorded a big league hit.
On November 4, 2014, Perez was granted free agency, and 15 days later, he was signed by the Colorado Rockies. Perez did not get the opportunity to put on a Rockies uniform though, as he was purchased by the Baltimore Orioles on March 31, 2015. That sounds so wrong, “purchased”.
Perez, is currently with the Triple-A affiliate, Norfolk Tides, and has a slash line of .328/.386/.473 in 37 games this season. Through those games, Perez has 4 home runs, 7 doubles, and has walked 11 times.
Perez is a career .270 hitter in the minors, in 556 games, and certainly hopes that he’ll work his way up to the big show, at some point in the near future. Given the right opportunity, whether it be for the Orioles, who have a good amount of depth at backstop, or with another team, I think Perez may give his club ample opportunity to put W’s on the board every night.
What say you, Birdland? What are your thoughts on Audry Perez??
