4/15: O’s (7-2) @ Rangers (6-5)

Good morning fellow Orioles fans! It’s shaping up to be a nice day outside, with highs in the mid-60’s and sunny. It will be about 15 degrees warmer in Arlington tonight, and to Joe Nichols’ delight, we’re looking at sunny and 75° for first pitch.

Tonight, we celebrate the legacy of Jackie Robinson, while the O’s try to get the momentum back as they go up against Martin Perez. Don’t be alarmed, it’s tradition, incase you’ve lived under a rock forever, for all players today to wear #42. If the O’s are going to get back in the win column, we’ll need a good start from Vance Worley. Back on 4/10, Vance pitched 4.2 innings against the Rays, in a non-decision. To be fair, Vance hadn’t pitched in some time prior to that start, so the leash would have been short no matter what happened that day. Vance gave up 7 hits, on 3 runs (2 earned), while walking 1 and K’ing 5. In his career, he has started 1 game against the boys in blue, and lost. Opposing the O’s tonight will be, as mentioned above, Martin Perez. Having started 3 games vs. the O’s, Martin holds a 2-1 lifetime record, with a 4.34 ERA.

When looking at the offensive numbers, it’s getting harder and harder to not mention Mark Trumbo. How can you not mention him against Perez when he has put up a .364 (4-11) career average, with a homer, a double, and 4 RBI’s. Not to mention this year, through 9 games, he’s batting .389 with 3 dongs, and 6 RBI’s.

Worth Noting

Manny Machado now has a 9-game hitting streak this season, and has a .303 career average against Perez, with 1 round tripper. James Jerry Hardy also has gone 3-6 (.500) in his career against Perez.
